I began to realise that when a girl is looking at the sky, she’s not looking for anything.

  She’s just lonely.

Anni Baobei created a sensation when she began to post her stories on a Chinese website. Her strange tales about individuality, loneliness, desire, suicide, sex, death and escape were like nothing the public had seen before.

The Road of Others is made up of three stories linked by their Shanghai setting, their themes, and by their characters. Urgent, romantic and dark, the stories chart the beginning of a literary journey that made Anni Baobei one of the most adored and influential writers of her generation. Translations by Nicky Harman and Keiko Wong.
